Nightlife in Lapa and Pedra do Sal – what to keep in mind?

According to the German Foreign Office, there have been several cases in Lapa and at the Pedra do Sal samba gathering where casual acquaintances spiked drinks to later rob victims in their hotel or Airbnb. Never leave drinks unattended and don't bring casual acquaintances back to your accommodation. Take a taxi or ride-hailing app both ways – in May 2026 six foreign tourists were robbed after leaving Pedra do Sal.
